Mission Dolores Academy | The education of tomorrow rooted in tradition.
Young Professionals Happy Hour Fundraiser
On June 23rd, San Francisco’s young professionals gathered at Cease & Desist in the Mission for a happy hour to raise funds for Mission Dolores Academy. Over 100 people gathered at the trendy Mission bar for great food and drinks prepared by our team of volunteer guest bartenders, and all for a great cause.
All tips on food and drinks were collected to fund scholarships for Mission Dolores Academy students to attend our summer academic and enrichment program, Summer Scholars. And thanks to our friends at Maverick Capital Foundation every dollar raised will be matched - doubling the event's impact!
Summer Scholars lasts five weeks and consists of full-day sessions Monday through Friday taught by school faculty. A mix of traditional curriculum and fun activities and field trips keep our students engaged during the long summer vacation, and helps eliminate loss of knowledge and skills gained during the school year. Research shows that this "summer learning loss" disproportionately affects children from socio economically disadvantaged households, the population Mission Dolores Academy serves. Another benefit of Summer Scholars is that it unburdens our working parents from having to make childcare arrangements over the summer.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended, to Jackie and Michaela Lalanne, Christian Truglio, Nate Schlein, Connor Galligan and the St. Dominic's Young Adults' Group for all their work organizing the event, and a very special thank you to our guest bartenders:
And thank you again to Maverick Capital Foundation for its generous matching grant!
