A very Merry Christmas at MDA
Christmas is such a special time at MDA. Here's a few highlights of this year's holiday season:
The Guardsmen Christmas Tree Delivery
The Christmas festivities kicked off at MDA with the delivery of two beautiful Christmas trees from Daniel and Ace with The Guardsmen. Our parents and students got straight to work to decorate the trees in time for the holiday season. MDA enjoys a longstanding relationship with the Guardsmen, and we are grateful to have been receiving Christmas trees and gifts from them for several years.
Our Nativity Play is always a grand production held during Mass at the beautiful Mission Dolores Basilica. This year's play on December 14th was one of the best ever! The Basilica was filled with students, teachers, parents, and friends for our performance of the greatest story ever told. A huge thank you to our main cast from the Second Grade, our narrators from the Fourth, Seventh, and Eighth Grades, and our String Program students for the beautiful violin music.
A big thank you to the following for all of their hard work in preparing our students for the performance: Volunteers Sue Bowen, Jean McCurdy and Cheryl Williams, Second Grade teachers Ms. Beca Unruh and Ms.Debranna Ray, String Program teacher Mr. Calvin Murasaki, and Sister Annette Sheaffer, O.P. On December 12th our parents and staff were treated to a spectacular musical show during our annual Christmas Concert. Highlights included ukulele playing by the Seventh and Eighth Grades, "Snowpants" song by our Kindergarten class, and a moving performance of Silent Night with sign language by our Sixth Grade. A huge thank you to our Music teacher Cathy Bleeker and all our teachers for producing the show! For more pictures and video click here.
On December 13th during a reading of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" by Ms.Reed to our Kindergarten and First Grade classes, we were surprised by a visit from the Grinch himself!! See our students hilarious reactions in this video, or for more pictures click here.
SF Fire Fighters Toy Program
On December 13th, our Third Grade students donated toys to the SF Fire Fighters Toy Program for children less fortunate. Dressed as Christmas Elves they headed down to the local Fire Station 6 to hand over the toys, and were treated to a VIP tour of the station! A huge thank you to the SF Fire Department! For more pictures click here.
On the last day of school our First Grade students had a huge amount of fun making "snowman slime"! This goopy magic made for a very messy and enjoyable morning in class. For more pictures click here.
Christmas Ornament Making
Sixth Grade were baking Christmas ornaments on the last day of school. Using a mix of flour, salt, water and food coloring they were able to create beautiful personalized decorations to take home for the holidays. For more pictures click here.
The pre-Christmas finale was the making of gingerbread houses with Kindergarten, First and Second Grades. We're not sure how much of the building materials were consumed, but we're pretty confident we have some future architects and engineers at MDA. For more pictures click here.
