Mission Dolores Academy Embraces the Great Kindness Challenge during Catholic Schools Week

January 20, 2015

Mission Dolores Academy encourages the community to come together and participate in The Great Kindness Challenge, January 26-30, 2015. The Great Kindness Challenge is a positive, proactive bullying prevention initiative, reaching millions of students.

The initiative encourages students and adults to engage in 50 or more acts of kindness during the week. Download a checklist here. Academy students have been discussing what kindness means to them and why it is important. Presenting sponsor Dignity Health helped kick off the campaign by producing a video featuring CEO Lloyd Dean posing these questions about kindness to Mission Dolores Academy students. This year the Great Kindness Challenge coincides with Catholic Schools Week and Mission Dolores Academy’s annual Day of Service. In addition to performing individual acts of kindness throughout the week, each Academy class selects and performs service projects and acts of kindness as a group.

“The Great Kindness Challenge is a perfect compliment to Mission Dolores Academy’s Day of Service and Catholic Schools Week," said Sr. Ann Providence, O.P. “Our students are excited to seek out and perform purposeful acts of kindness with the hope that these acts will have an enduring impact in our community.”

Activities planned include collecting socks and assembling care packages to deliver to the homeless, picking up trash on the school campus and in the local neighborhood, helping to prepare the school garden for spring planting, and sending notes of thanks to hospitalized service men and women.
