Mission Dolores Academy | The education of tomorrow rooted in tradition.
FIESTA Tradition Continues
The diverse cultures of the Mission were on full display Sunday, October 12, in the Mission Dolores parking lot as the FIESTA tradition continued. Open to the public and with free admission, the 23rd FIESTA carnival showcased a variety of international foods and entertainment. Proceeds raised at the event funded scholarships for Mission Dolores Academy students.
Designed to be fun for both kids and adults, highlights included:
- Multicultural food and drink including Latin American, Filipino, and East African fare that reflects the diversity of the Mission and the Academy's student body
- Live performances included fully-costumed Aztec and Polynesian dance troupes, dance performances by Academy students, and a DJ
- Carnival games and bounce house
- Raffle with $2,500 in prizes, including $1,000 Grand Prize, $500 First Prize, and four $250 prizes
Fr. Arturo Albano was pleased to see the come together. “We’re happy to see how the parish and school communities worked together to make this a very successful event.”
Academy Principal Dan Storz expressed gratitude to the volunteers and staff whose hard work made it all possible. "We're extremely thankful for everyone who pitched in to continue this neighborhood tradition. It was wonderful to see our parents, the Mission Dolores church community, alumni of the school, and the entire neighborhood rallying around the event.”
Mission Dolores Academy parent, Mary Ann Datoc, and the school's Development Director, Matt Safranek, led the effort to rally the school community. According to Safranek, it was a great day with fun activities for kids, adults, and the whole neighborhood. “The best part is that beyond just having fun, we also were helping local students, many of whom will be the first in their family to go to college."
Plans are underway for the 24th FIESTA, to be scheduled in the fall of 2015. For more information regarding FIESTA, and how you can help, please contact Matt Safranek at 415.638.6212 or email email@example.com.
